The reason why I chose UBerNas5 as the title of my blog is because UB is short for Upward Bound which is the non profit organization that I work for. My job is a huge part of my life so I chose to include it in my blog title.
Did you participate in Upward bound? Do you work on campus or in Sacramento? I'm interested in hearing what you do with the program. I myself am a peer advising counselor for the Education Opportunity Program (EOP) and it too is a significant part of my life. The opprotunity to help people better themselves and just to answer people's questions is always rewarding!
Upward Bound is a part of TRiO programs which consists of ETS for middle and high school students, Upward Bound for high school students and Trio scholars which is for college students. I was a participant in ETS from 7th-12th grade and now am in Trio scholars,so these programs have been a part of my life for a long time. My ETS high school adviser is actually my boss now at Upward Bound so its amazing to be able to help other high school student like my adviser helped me!
I tutor at Edison High in Stockton and Valley High in Sacramento every week. My job is to get high school students interested about college and give them the resources and help they need in order to get to college. Like you said helping others attain their dreams is the most rewarding thing. I love spending time with my students and it is the highlight of my week to be able to do that!
